Discovering Siji

I'm completely an old newspaper when it comes to music but I just found out about this guy. Siji has a pretty good sound and this video is beyond awesome.

I love, love, love that it's in Yoruba and I love how it's just about dancing with no gimmicks and none of the wannabe-Americana-rapper-hip hop stuff that pretty much every Nigerian music video is about these days.

I really like Nigerian musicians like Femi Kuti, Asa, Lagbaja, etc and I think he has a similar sound. What do you think?

P.S.

Mellowyel also has a great post about this song.

I'm TWENTY-TWO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sick at home with a fever and this has been the shittiest week of my life.

Nottin Spoil

UPDATE:

Thank you everyone for all the wonderful birthday wishes. I am feeling so much better. I was able to go out and go to Starbucks and get a birthday venti white chocolate mocha and my friends surprised me with a cake and a card at my door when I got back. I feel like today has been the most awesome-est day ever and it totally more than makes up for the week I've had.

The Cake

I bought myself a Barnes and Noble Nook for my birthday, and I also stopped by the book store and picked up a new sketchbook and a small book about how to draw animals (both pictured below).

Oh, and Oo Nwoye called me at 4am this morning from Nigeria to wish me happy birthday and gallantly attempted to buy me my favourite coffee from Starbucks online but the internet connection foiled his plan.
Either way, it's the thought that counts, so thank you!!!! ^_^

In the morning the sun will rise

Last night you killed me and told me to die.

And all night I thought that I had.

But today I opened my eyes.

I will not die.

I will live.

Please Pray for Japan

Early this morning a huge earthquake hit off the coast of Japan (but shook parts of the country anyway) and triggered an insanely massive tsunami that so far has killed hundreds of people. Some of my Japanese friends are trying to contact their parents and family and friends but no luck. Please remember them in your prayers.

Nigeria should take a serious leaf out of Japan's book. Thanks to the Japanese government's insistence on quality and standards, the number of dead people due to the earthquake is far smaller than it might have been.

We cannot allow our government to continue letting construction companies (like Julius Berger) short change us on quality materials and safety standards for our buildings, roads, and bridges. Every year a ridiculous number of buildings collapse in Lagos, killing innocent people. Why are we allowing crooks who only care about money to be in charge of our safety?

I hope that all the missing people are found and that as many people as possible in Japan and all the affected countries are able to get to safety in time. And may everyone who died rest in peace.

Morning Online Roundup

I spent most of this morning on Google Reader catching up with Blogville and all the other blogs I read. Lots of interesting stuff on the Internet today. Here's what caught my eye:

Mobility Nigeria has a first look at the new Nokia E7! I owned a Nokia N93i before my Blackberry so this post made me really happy because I love Nokia! ^_^

YankeeNaijaChick asks why make up brands don't carry more colours for Nigerian skin tones.... I've been wondering the same thing as well. (side eye to Maybelline FIT)

Nigeria's First Lady is a disgrace.... but we all knew that.

These are the cutest looking take-out containers EVER!!! Just looking at them makes me want to order yaki udon.
Blogsville Gist has an excellent post about the sexist attitudes of Nigerian men towards getting vasectomies.

An amazing new service called Dasuba lets Nigerians abroad send free text messages to Nigeria via the web.

Stuff Nigerians Love/Hate posted a hilarious video of Majela at the audition for the x-factor. Warning: It's rather shocking and not at all safe for work.

And finally, here's a video of my favourite artist of all time: Inoue Takehiko drawing in an advert for Japanese hair care brand Shiseido.  He's the author of the Vagabond manga series (several of which I own) which is probably undisputably the best drawn manga in the world. Nevermind that you don't understand Japanese... I only understand one out of every fifty words he says.. just watch it.... his drawings are sick.

I've been away... Sorry

I've been ill and out of sorts over the past two weeks and then just plain tired (or maybe lazy). I love blogging and I thought blogging for a class would be a breeze, but I'm not used to having a schedule or planning my posts in advance. Once everything started to look more and more like an assignment, the more reluctant/tired/unwilling I began to feel.

So let's just say that I've had two weeks to get it out of my system and I'm ready to hit the keyboard full steam. (I hope)

I still haven't submitted my blog plan and thinking of what to blog about is such a pain so can you guys please help me out?

Any suggestions on future post topics you'd like to see or what I should add to my blog plan? It's not absolutely fixed and there will still be lots of impromptu posts in between, but I just need about ten good topics/ideas/subjects to put on my plan and prepare for class.

I swear this does not count as expo....  ^_^
