ReplyDelete@Sugabelly, thanks this is an interesting idea. We also had similar concerns when we started our Yorùbá language blog in 2009. There are a number of significant issues facing African languages spoken in countries like Nigeria, especially for the majority of the non-Elite population who are not fluent in English. One major problem is these African languages are not being actively used as written languages, which makes their future very uncertain. We typically write our blog postings in Yorùbá without translation, however we do have some translations of our some Yorùbá blog postings to Spanish and Portuguese because of the (consistent) incoming Internet traffic that we get to our site, from Brazil and other parts of South America where the influence of Yorùbá culture still exists. I was able to find a few of our old Yorùbá language blogs that we translated to English, they are written blog postings, that are not in the recommended audio format. The links are shown below.
