No Win
The YouWin list is out.
I didn't win. Congratulations to those who did.
In a way, it's a huge relief because I don't have to think about it anymore.
I noticed they prioritised existing businesses above startups which pretty much derails the whole aim of the program, but this is Nigeria so hey.
So, what now?
I'm still going to do what I set out to do. I planned to do it years before YouWin's first poster appeared and I still plan to do it now. I've been busy setting up the websites and stuff, and now I have to buckle down and draw. I am going to start researching an accounting software to use so I don't have to do it all myself. I think it comes down to freshbooks vs quickbooks but with further research I'm sure I will decide. There are so many things you must think about when starting a business that I never even considered before starting this dream of mine. You really have to screw your head on and think about everything very meticulously. You also need to develop skills I didn't think immediately about when beginning this journey. I remember doing research on how to start a business and read that you should attend effective negotiation training. Negotiation being a critical skill to develop for any business owner to ensure they can develop profitable relationships with other parties. Or so I've read anyway. But I know I've still got a lot to learn. Of course, there are a lot of other skills that wouldn't go amiss when running a business. One of them being the ability to be assertive. This is one of the most important skills, especially when you're trying to organize a company and staff to ensure you meet goals and targets. To help with this, my friend told me about these assertiveness training courses that she'd seen the other day. Maybe they would be beneficial too. There are so many things to prepare for when running a business, things like registering your business with a company formation service is something that completely passed over my mind (stupidly!) before I realized it was essential for my business' legal entity. Am I the only one that didn't think about this? It all seems so obvious when thinking back to it in my head. Having said all this, I cannot wait to see my business come to fruition, and with hard work and effort, I'm hoping to become very successful. After all, the sky's the limit!
Door shut; window open.
